St. Peter’s “Young at Heart” was organized some sixteen years ago to gather seniors together on a regular basis for companionship and recreation.  At this time, we have 75 members.  We meet after the noon Mass on the first Thursday of the month, at the Parish . The meetings are informal, refreshments are served, and generally there is a guest speaker. Our speakers have been from the Police and Fire Departments, the Transit Board, and Health Departments, and the New Westminster Parks and Recreation.   On Thursdays we come together for moderate exercises.

In March, we hold our “Spring Tea”, and this is a good time for socializing, and getting to know each other.   In August we have an indoor picnic.  Lunch is served, and then the games begin, and a good time is had by all.   Our big production is the Christmas luncheon, where a full turkey dinner is served, special entertainment is provided, and then Santa arrives with a gift for each guest.  During the lunch, draws are made for the gifts which have been donated by the Executive. This is a day which is much looked forward to by the membership.

During the year, special events are held, such as paddle wheeler trips to Steveston, Fort Langley, and Pitt Lake. We traveled to Victoria, and to the Minter and Van Deusen Gardens.  Each year we take in the big musical production put on by Massey Theatre.

Once a year, our members volunteer to sell tickets for the Knights of Columbus annual car raffle.  This is a source of revenue for our club, and enables us to offer Scholarships to grandchildren of our members.

“Young at Heart” is a club which focuses on our seniors getting to know other parishioners and spending an afternoon together.  New members are always very well received and made welcome.
